CASTLE SHORES
This piece developed from a watercolor painting I had for many years.  In fact, I carried it around with me when I did workshops at schools.  I would ask the students what they saw in it as I turned in upside down several times.  Comments were everything from a whale to a waterfall to rocks and under the sea.  At the last session of my adult watercolor class, I said, "Let's do collage"...and I chose the painting as a base because I liked the colors and I had some other materials I thought would work with it.  This painting evolved from my demonstration of collage to incorporate pastels, bits of photos, fabrics, threads and various papers.  The whale and waterfall disappeared, and it became a castle on a rocky sea coast to me.
