This painting began as a pouring demonstration for my class, using the cruciform composition with red, green and yellow pigments. Later the old bird just "showed up" in the painting, so I added a branch, some hints of flowers and his face, then softened the surrounding areas with Unruh paper to add to that tropical feel. When you look carefully, do you see he has some younger friends amongst the flowers and leaves?
