SJV: First the PEOPLE © Kate Jackson 2008 26x40" watercolor on Yupo paper

Part of the CHAA show this piece reflects the cultures built up in the Central Valley, beginning with the first people, the Yokuts (known as "The People").  My feeling about this piece is that all of the cultures who have come have brought something to contribute, yet they have ultimately built on the legacy of the Yokut and other native tribes who found the richness of the valley centuries ago.  So the acorn society grew into a multi-cultural and multi-vegetational community.

This undertaking was huge for me, especially on Yupo paper, but I am quite proud of the images showing with a caricature type quality that we are all related and interdependent.
