WATERCOLOR SUPPLIES

MINIMAL SUPPLIES
 
Sketchbook (at least 8/12X11”)
Pencil (regular #2 is fine)
Water container (most people like a gallon plastic milk jug, you’ll be shown at class how to cut it for use)
Brushes (PLEASE BE SURE TO GET WATERCOLOR BRUSHES—not acyrilic or oil…don’t get the cheapest sets at Michael’s, they fall apart AND you only need 2 brushes)
1"flat wash brush
#10 or #12 round watercolor brush
Watercolor paper, good quality, half to one full sheet (22”x 30”) per class session, choose COLD PRESS to start, then ROUGH or HOT PRESS.  Teacher will have sheets available for purchase at class @$3.00/sheet … i.e.  Arches 140#, Lanaquarelle #140. (student grade paper is #90 and not as workable)
3-5 tubes of watercolor paints
Daniel Smith, Windsor Newton, Cotman or Academy small tubes are fine
        Choose at least 1 tube each of primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and
add others that you like.
Some good combinations are:  Rose Madder Genuine + Aureolin Yellow + Cobalt Blue (transparent pigments);
Winsor Red+ Winsor Yellow+ Winsor Blue (sometimes called Thalo) (staining pigments)
Cerulean Blue+Yellow Ochre+ Indian Red or Burnt Sienna (except for burnt sienna, these are more opaque colors).
Cadmium Red+Cadmium Yellow+French Ultramarine Blue(bright stains)
Palette -- Stephen Quiller round style is type Kate uses however any Styrofoam plates, egg cartons, etc. will work, or smaller plastic palette
Paper towels
1 Roll VIVA or Job Squad, plain white
 
OPTIONAL ITEMS: (you’ll want those with * very soon)
 
*Small spray bottle
*Drawing Board
*Carrying case or box for all materials
Brush holder
”-1” width drafting or masking tape
apron or smock
*plastic wrap, waxed paper, oven cooking bags
Exacto knife or scissors
Watercolor pencils, Caran D’Arch, or pastels
*salt (margarita, table or popcorn)
